Long-tailed skipper and butterfly pea add color to panhandle’s early autumn.

“Eat your vegetables,” is the anthem of almost every parent during mealtime when juveniles are involved.

For one set of butterfly parents in Santa Rosa County, there has never been the need to entice their young to consume the peas. The long-tailed skipper’s larva is known for an appetite which focuses on a variety of pea species, along with a few others.

Sixth graders build and test bridges for stability

It’s not every day that you build a bridge with popsicle sticks in science class. Recently, East Bay K-8 sixth graders did just that.

“The students were given the task to build a prototype bridge (engineering & design) that would be used to connect two cities together that was separated by a river, and was 50 kilometers apart,” East Bay K-8 Earth/Space Science teacher Joseph D. Pritchard said.

Animal rescuers are an inspiration

Playing its first game on campus in school history last Friday night, Lighthouse Private Christian Academy fell short in its bid to upset the reigning 1A state champions.

The Stingrays lost 9-0 to sixth-ranked Baker.

Scott Murphy has done a bit of everything as Navarre AD

Scott Murphy knew when he was in college the odds were stacked against him to one day play Major League Baseball.

But while playing college ball at Tulane, the current Navarre High School Athletic Director had a chance to pitch against future big leaguers and jokes that he played a part in their ability to make it as a pro, including San Francisco Giants great Will Clark.
