Number of fully vaccinated long-term care residents, staff unknown

Florida is not keeping track of the number of nursing home staff and residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The state requires nursing facilities to report to the state Emergency Status System the number of residents and staff who have received at least one dose of the vaccine. The facilities also must report the number of residents and staff who have not been vaccinated.

Chamber officials realize the completion of the first phase of the Pensacola Bay Bridge project is not dated. “Our chamber simply wants to utilize the opportunity to promote our City, the beach, and their businesses alongside such a momentous milestone as the bridge reopening to traffic,” the statement said.

Citizens, Zoning Board argue over church signage

The Santa Rosa County Zoning Board and residents of Bagdad argued over a variance request to allow an internally illuminated sign in the Historic District of Bagdad at a meeting May 13.

The request was submitted by Bagdad First Assembly of God, located at 4513 Forsyth St. After about 45 minutes of discussion, the board recommended to deny the request.

Paddle for Prevention raises suicide awareness

The Florida Panhandle chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention held their 5th annual Paddle for Prevention at Juana’s Pagodas May 22. Everyone was invited to paddleboard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Santa Rosa Sound to raise awareness for suicide prevention or honor anyone they have lost to suicide.

Citizen accuses Zoning Board member of bias after argument over bridge naming

Santa Rosa County Zoning Board member Sam Mullins was asked to disqualify himself from voting on a particular agenda item by an audience member at a meeting May 13. Tony Hughes, the audience member who requested Mullins’ disqualification, says this is the result of an incident that occurred at a February Board of County Commissioners meeting.
