Former Santa Rosa Sheriff’s deputy sentenced for lying to FBI

A former Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy will be seeing the inside of a federal prison cell for the next year.

Scott P. Haines, 50, of Milton, was sentenced to one year and a day in federal prison, following his previous guilty plea on the charge of making material false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation during an elder exploitation investigation. United States Attorney Jason R. Coody announced the sentence.

Lifeguards have winning season

The 2022 Navarre Beach Lifeguards celebrated a “winning” season – meaning no drownings.

With more than 747,000 visitors, the guards provided 150 assists, 44 rescues and answered 185 medical calls on the beach. Recently, Navarre Beach Safety Division Chief Austin Turnbull attended the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) board meeting and educational conference in Orlando.

Woodlawn Beach Middle competes in robotics competition

For six weeks during September, October, and November, Woodlawn Beach Middle School students met regularly to work on a project.

While students working on a project at school might not be a surprise, these students weren’t just putting together a paper mache globe. They were building a robot.
