Court sides with homeowner on insurance law

Tallahassee – In an issue that might ultimately have to be sorted out by the Florida Supreme Court, an appeals court has sided with a Collier County homeowner in a dispute about a 2021 law that placed additional hurdles to filing lawsuits against property insurers.

Cold weather shelter open nights Nov. 27-29

The cold weather shelter for the homeless and/or heatless will open on the nights of Monday, Nov. 27 through Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Ferris Hill Baptist Church, 6848 Chaffin St. in Milton. Those who would like to stay at the shelter must arrive between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Only service animals (with verification of rabies vaccination) are permitted to stay with guests. No one will be admitted after 8:30 p.m. unless brought in by law enforcement. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning.

State seeks go-ahead for drag show law

Tallahassee – After suffering a setback at the U.S. Supreme Court, attorneys for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration on Friday told a federal appeals court that a law aimed at preventing children from attending drag shows is tailored to the state’s “unquestioned interest in protecting children from exposure to obscenity.”
