Out and About

Have you noticed that the Weather Channel has turned into the town crier touting that the end is near? I noticed recently that the Weather Channel started naming all the winter storms.

However, when I looked it up, they apparently decided to start naming winter storms in 2012. We used to just have named hurricanes but that wasn’t enough.

A free press must prevail

In a rare event, law enforcement raided a local newsroom in Marion, Kansas, carrying out equipment, computers, cell phones and files. They also raided the publisher’s and the owner’s home.

Apparently, the newspaper received a tip about a local restaurant owner’s drunk driving conviction. The paper chose not to publish any of the information.

Navarre local helping save turtles beyond Navarre

Navarre Beach Fishing Pier is the number one pier in Florida for successful sea turtle stranding efforts.

Road trippin’ to a spring, catfish meal and ‘Little House’ author site

Not long ago, after exploring the clear water of Morrison Springs in Walton County by kayak, I paddled to the adjoining, brown and fast-flowing Choctawhatchee River, which promptly snapped my paddle in two like a toothpick.
Someday, I’d like to return to those waterways with my new paddle. I also need to visit the nearby Ponce De Leon Springs. In the meantime, I recently fulfilled a wish to venture a little farther away by kayaking, swimming and snorkeling at Cypress Spring in Washington County.

Breakout year possible for Navarre’s Nate Hanson

Choctaw last month at Hurlburt Field.

Hanson didn’t get a ton of opportunities to make plays like that a season ago, but things just seem different for him this year as he gears up for his senior season with the Navarre Raiders.

Florida Power and Light donates $20,000 to support National Naval Aviation Museum’s new homeschool program

The Naval Aviation Museum Foundation (NAMF) is delighted to announce a recent contribution of $20,000 from Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) towards the museum’s new Homeschool Academy. The check presentation ceremony took place on the base Friday morning, Aug.11.

Homeschool Academy: The Museum Classroom was initiated by NAMF in January 2023, with a focus on families homeschooling children aged 5 to 18. FPL’s generous grant will enable NAMF to extend the program’s reach throughout the entire school year, benefiting the homeschooling community.

Brian Out Loud

We are just going to take it one game at a time. We have to work hard and give the best effort possible. We can’t let the same mistake beat us twice.

Oh sorry. I was working on my coach speak. I’ve been promoted to coach in case you haven’t heard. Social media gave me the gig. And we all know that everything on social media is true.
