Ahead of county meetings, Town Center developer says project ‘good for the people’

“A visionary.”

That’s how Navarre businessman and developer Robert “Bob” Benaquis describes himself. And what’s his vision? A place in Navarre for residents to shop, dine and play all within a walkable space. Benaquis hopes the creation of a town center can keep locals from going to places like Pensacola or Destin, where there are more amenities.

SRC Economic Development helping bring in more industries, jobs

Over the past 23 years, Santa Rosa County has seen an influx of people to the tune of around 80,000 people. With people comes a workforce, 91,583 as of September (not including military servicemembers). Having a population ready to work is a major selling point for companies when they decide where they want to set up their headquarters, distribution, manufacturing or stores.

Out and About

I’m really- very – disappointed in the county commissioner’s decision to amend the lease on Navarre Beach for an RV Park. The commissioners, Parker, Calkins, and Wright seemingly put feelings ahead of facts. They definitely put themselves in the developers’ shoes and not in the shoes of our tax-paying beach residents that already live or own property on Navarre Beach. And what happened to the “rule” that you defer to the county commissioner that is “responsible” for the district the property in question is in? Eddington voted NO.

New K9 unit supervisor first woman in role for Sheriff’s Office

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office recently elevated Sgt. Chrystal Bozard to the role of supervisor of the K9 Unit. It marked the first time a woman has held the role, something Bozard doesn’t take lightly.

“I am blessed to be here, it was always my goal to get back into the unit,” Bozard said. “Its always harder for women in this career field because there’s not as many but I feel extremely blessed.”

Navarre Beach Yacht Club still on the water

Despite the lack of a Navarre Pass, Navarre Beach has a significant boating culture. One part of the boating scene along Navarre’s coast is the Navarre Beach Yacht Club.

Founded in 1991, Navarre Beach Yacht Club has been a group of, by and for boaters and boating enthusiasts throughout the years. According to their website, the Navarre Beach Yacht Club’s purpose is to “provide a venue for fun and enjoyment of the members allowing captains to share their boating enthusiasm with people of like-minded attitudes… and latitudes.”

Culture of success continues for Navarre Raider football team

As the Navarre Raiders celebrated their Beach Bowl win on a Friday night in late October, the smiles saying more than words could ever say, this team found itself in a spot that has become all too familiar.

For the seventh time since Jay Walls has been the head coach at Navarre, the Raiders are district champions, clinching the crown with a wild 49-48 overtime victory over rival Gulf Breeze Oct. 27.
