Trial starts in battle over transgender treatments

Tallahassee – With the mother of a transgender girl testifying that it would be “devastating” if the child could not get treatment, a federal judge Wednesday began a trial in a constitutional challenge to Florida restrictions on such things as puberty blockers and hormone therapy for transgender people.

DUO program already making an impact, says Sanborn

Earlier this year, in May, Linda Sanborn, a retired teacher, school board member and business owner, decided to begin a program to help disadvantaged youth in Santa Rosa District Schools.

Known as DUO, which stands for “Do Unto Others,” the program has already begun to make an impact, said Sanborn.

New Southend high school breaks ground

With shovels in hand and hardhats on their heads, members from Santa Rosa County school board ushered in the beginning of a new era for education on the south end of the county Wednesday, Dec. 6. They were at 5760 Gulf Breeze Parkway, the new home of a new high school, for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction on the three story, 74 classroom Southend high school.
