Lawmakers target golf courses, lodges in parks

Tallahassee – After a bipartisan uproar last year about a proposal dubbed the “Great Outdoors Initiative,” the Florida Senate on Feb. 11 began moving forward with a bill that would prevent building such things as golf courses, pickleball courts and hotel-style lodges in state parks.

For God’s Sake

It was the end of a workday and, as is our custom, my wife and I were “debriefing” one another. I initiated, “How was your day?” My wife’s workdays of late have been exceedingly busy but today was less so. “It was okay,” she answered, “I only had about 40 phone calls.” Yes, that is a less busy day for her. She reciprocated, “And how was your day?” As I answered, I began to do something that I have done for my entire life. Leaning on my right elbow, my head cradled in my right hand, the fingers of my right hand were tugging on the flesh under my right eye. Yeah, it’s weird, but I do it unconsciously.

Out and About

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved Valentine’s Day. I send my children gifts on Valentine’s, where they use to be waiting for them at the breakfast table. I give gifts to my team members at the office, one year I gave them all dinner and a movie. This year, spoiler alert to whomever is proofing my column, I have a few options, and I’m not saying.  Ha ha.  I guess I’ve always loved love. And, I’m not talking about romantic love…I’m talking about the best love of all – Agape or Phileo LOVE…but I’m not going to get into the Greek words – right now.

Completion of new Holley Navarre fire station set for spring

Holley Navarre Fire District is expanding into Holley. A new fire station, which will be known as ‘Station 44,’ is currently under construction across from Holley Assembly of God.

Even with delays due to recent snowfall, the station’s construction is expected to be complete this April. According to HNFD Fire Chief Kevin Lewis, the station will feature an engine and equipment bay, storage, sleeping quarters, office space and a fire pole.

Navarre High yearbook focused with deadline approaching

Around 30 students huddle into Mr. Lance Baker’s classroom as the fourth period bell rings at Navarre High School.

Upon first entering the room, you might assume it’s a basic computer lab, but here, students aren’t just working on assignments for class, they are helping shape the collective memory of their classmates’ high school experiences.

Beach residents, leaseholders again pursuing fee simple title

Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association (NBLRA) are looking for a new lease on life for their neighbors and themselves. Although, lease might not be the most operative word.

The association met Jan. 18 to hear updates on various things affecting the beach community. One update is a plan to pursue residential ownership of beach properties through fee simple title, a long-held desire both on the beach and in Santa Rosa County government.
