Validity Report must be read in entirety to paint accurate depiction of results

On Sept.1, Education Commissioner Pam Stewart announced that the independent third-party review of the Florida Standards Assessment which was mandated by the Florida Legislature, had confirmed the FSA is valid for group-level use and an accurate way to measure students’ knowledge of the Florida Standards. Since that announcement, some have relied on only portions of the report, failing to provide context or connection to the entire report and its overall conclusions. This has resulted in some incorrect interpretations of the report.

We stand with Okaloosa County

Our hearts are heavy as we heard and reported the events of the day – this day Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Myers was shot and killed in the line of duty.  We heard the scanner traffic after the incident; perimeters being set up, a Comfort Inn being evacuated, command post being set up.  We waited for an update on the deputy’s condition.  He was listed as critical.  We prayed for Deputy Myers and his family.

Public information officer to return to Escambia County

When Santa Rosa County Public Information Officer, Joy Tsubooka, left Escambia County eight years ago as a communication specialist, she was one of four other specialists. When she returns in November, she will be supervising as the community and media relations division manager.

TDC Board approves two applicants for expiring terms

The board of directors for the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council voted in favor of recommending two of the three interested applicants to the Board of County Commissioners to fill two seats being vacated on the board.  They also voted to approve $32,000 in funding for organizations who submitted applications to receive grant money for events taking place next fiscal year.

Visitor Center earns certification

The Santa Rosa County Visitor Information Center has been designated an official Florida Certified Tourism Information Center by VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s official tourism marketing corporation. The VISIT FLORIDA Certified Tourism Information Center is a program by VISIT FLORIDA which recognizes visitor services facilities around the state that provide facilities and promote travel in the county and throughout Florida. The Santa Rosa County Visitor Information Center is located in Navarre Park located at the foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge on heavily traveled U.S. Hwy. 98. The center not only promotes visitor opportunities in the county but is an important connector with our neighboring Northwest Florida counties.
