The theme of the 2015 Navarre Women’s Expo was Women Empowering Women. And the presenters of this event, Cherie Rice of Coldwell Banker United Realtors and Sarah Hasty of New York Life Insurance company lived up to the theme.
Area churches, authors and singers joined in to celebrate the 2nd annual Joyfest in Navarre Park on Saturday. Julie Condon, owner of Saltwater Cottage in Navarre and Vierra, FL was the brainchild behind Joyfest, which is named after her Aunt Joy. “She was such a giving person and didn’t have any children of her own. She made all of her nieces and nephews feel like they were her favorite,” Condon said when remembering her Aunt that inspired Joyfest.
Merriam-Webster says it is the act of returning home or to a place that is like home. Many have called Holley Assembly of God their ‘home’ church over the years, and some of those have moved away. But Sunday was a homecoming, a celebration of sorts of the birth of Holley Assembly, and a time when those members could come ‘home’ again to fellowship and worship with the church.

Last weekend was full of fun things to do as you can see by reading this issue. I’m not sure they could have crammed one more thing into the weekend. Thankfully – it was a beautiful weekend and the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits or hinder attendance.
I thought the county commissioners were public servants for the people that elected them. Commissioner Rob Williamson always says, “At your service.” The majority of people voted NO concerning the sales tax for a new court house which indicates the court house is not a top priority. But now the commissioners want to raise the valorem taxes for the court house regardless of the voters’ wishes. Leadership failure is not having the skill sets to use management, judgment, experience and creativity to eliminate waste for efficiency so the easiest thing for the commissioners to do is raise taxes. Anyone with or without an education can say raise taxes for any situation.
IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area a local women’s philanthropy group, has awarded more than $1 million to 10 nonprofit organizations in the areas of Arts & Culture; Education; Environment; Recreation & Preservation; Family and Health & Wellness. The 10 will each receive $106,000, which will bring IMPACT 100’s grants total to $7,236,000.The 2015 grant recipients are:
After sailing more than 40,000 nautical miles and visiting dozens of countries, EL GALEON, a Colonial-era Spanish galleon replica, will sail into Pensacola Bay on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and dock at Plaza de Luna in Downtown Pensacola. The historic two-masted tall ship is owned and operated by the Nao Victoria Foundation, a Spanish nonprofit organization.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Rich Aloy has seen first-hand how teen drivers put themselves and others on the road at risk. He was nearly hit by one on the way to work Friday morning.
