Holley Navarre Water rates increase 17.5 percent

At its March 28 board meeting, the Holley-Navarre Water System board of directors voted to raise water rates to customers by 17.5 percent.  The vote came at a rescheduled meeting of the board with only one member of the public in attendance.

Cox sentenced to 25 years

The State Attorney’s Office of William Eddins for the First Judicial Court announced that Christopher Lee Cox was sentenced to 25 years in state prison with a 15-year minimum mandatory sentence and fined $250,000.  Cox was convicted by a Santa Rosa County jury on March 9 for trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man arrested for exposing himself

Neighbors called the police on a man who was seen out in front of his residence on Bay Club Drive wearing a woman’s bra, panties and pink bathrobe.  On  March 15, two neighbors both reported Mark Baringer for exposing himself while standing on his lawn.  Baringer asked one of the neighbors if he was calling the police and then retreated into his house. 

Grimes, Cronin receive All-American recognition

Cyrus Grimes is gaining a great deal of attention as a high school baseball player.

College scouts are taking notice of his talents and the Navarre outfielder was just named a high honorable mention selection on the Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-American team.

Trail events, hikes, walks planned for April

Ball pythons: Good beginner reptile with variety of looks

Ball pythons have quickly become the snake of choice among beginner snake owners and experienced breeders.  In an article addressing the history of ball python morphs, Reptile Magazine accurately described ball pythons saying, “At the beginning of the 1990s, the ball python was a snake that everyone in town danced with, but no one wanted to take to the prom.” Today, ball pythons have become one of the most popular snakes in the herp world. 

Eagle nest numbers continue to grow

The health of bald eagles in the state of Florida has improved significantly in 40-plus years. Nests are being observed throughout Florida this year, including in Santa Rosa County.
