What’s in a name?

Hellllooooo Navarre! I’m the newest member of the Navarre Press family – they adopted me a few weeks ago and since then I have been one busy cat.

Red in the ledger

One of my favorite mantras is “I can’t have any red in the ledger.” It comes from a scene in “The Avengers” when Black Widow discusses how many folks she’s killed and how much blood she has on her hands. She wants to get rid of the “red in her ledger” by doing some good to make up for it.

Local racers go ultra

In case marathons aren’t enough of a challenge for those who love such a thing, ultramarathons are climbing in popularity in today’s fitness world.

Happy 126th Billory Baptist

Before Holley was Holley, Rev. J. E. Holley, the area’s name sake, gathered together a group in the area to worship in 1891. As the story goes, 29 people were saved that day and a church was born.

Out and About

The anticipation of Hurricane Irma is a difficult waiting game for businesses.  Restaurants have to figure out if they need to order a little – or a lot, payroll companies want payroll amounts early so they can make sure checks get out in time, property managers start seeing the cancellations rolling in, car repair shops get rush orders on the cars already in their shops and the repairs that people have been putting off, are suddenly – very important. However, if you are a grocery store or a dollar store – things are more certain. Storm or not – people want water – and beer – apparently.  I had a message Monday evening that our Navarre Walmart was wiped out of beer and water and it was a week before we may even see a rain shower due to Irma.
