Longtime civil rights activist Bond dead at 75 

Julian Bond, a leading figure from the 1960s civil rights movement who served as chairman of the NAACP after a long career in politics, died Saturday in Fort Walton Beach, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. He was 75.

Planning council brings NOAA grant to local schools

The West Florida Regional Planning Council (WFRPC) was recently awarded a grant through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program. The grant will be administered in both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and will provide 11th-grade students and teachers with the resources to promote hands-on environmental education through outdoor place-based activities.

NASWF participates in Feds Feed Families

The Feds Feeds Family campaign is collecting food to help the less fortunate across the nation. The 2015 campaign began mid-June and concludes at the end of August. The Naval Air Station Whiting Field donations will support the efforts of Bay Area Food Bank.

Vaccine clinic benefits animal rescue

Squiggley’s Safe Haven, St. Francis Veterinary Center’s animal rescue, hosted a vaccine clinic and adopt-a-thon Saturday, and while the plan was to find homes for Squiggley’s residents, the rescue ended up taking in seven more animals.
