Legislature extends session until June 6 to finish budget, tentative agreement on $2.8 billion tax relief package reached

(Article by Florida TaxWatch) Friday was supposed to be the final day of the 2025 legislative session but because they did not finish the only thing they are required to do—pass a budget—the Legislature is going to have to come back.
The Legislature was still debating bills until after 10 p.m. Friday night. They then passed a resolution to extend the session until June 6. Legislators will take next week off and return the week of May 12 to take up the budget, the implementing and conforming bills, and the tax package. One other bill is included – Senate President Albritton’s priority “Rural Renaissance” bill (SB 110).

With the recent death of Pope Francis, the Roman Catholic Church has scheduled a conclave to begin on May 7. As a former Roman Catholic, now a born-again Christian, and a protestant pastor, I am interested in the conclave’s election process, so I decided to watch the 2016 Oscar-winning movie “Conclave.”

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that you buy tickets to Navarre’s Centennial Celebration which will be held on June 21. The tickets are $100 each and almost every dollar of that ticket is being spent on the food, the decorations, the party favor of a commemorative coin, and the entertainment. You will enjoy learning about Navarre’s founding in 1925 and the recording history of this area dating back a century before that. You don’t have to be a history nerd to hear the stories that will be told. In fact, our history has every element of what makes a good story – fantastic, but true. You will hear stories of murder, sheriff’s politicking, love, lust, marriages, adoptions, divorce, more death (or was it murder) money, fame, fortune, and then losing it all again – all wrapped up in what was going on with the rest of the world and in Northwest Florida. You will be amazed at how busy our little unincorporated area of Santa Rosa County has been in the last 100 years. All that, and a phenomenal band, Six Piece Suits and scrumptious food.

She had an opportunity to be with Flagler a little longer this season – the Saints made the NCAA Division II tournament – but the former Raider standout has opted to attend graduation instead.

Renee Hester and Lily Weaver were sophomores when Navarre’s softball team last played in a regional tournament. Natalia Taylor was just a freshman.
The three talked about that experience early last week ahead of practice and are thankful to have another shot at the postseason.
Sudanese basketball player finds second home in Navarre community

Standing at 6’7”, it’s hard to miss Akok Chan (pronounced shawn) when you see him on or off the basketball court.
Originally from Sudan, he first arrived in the U.S. in 2020 on a student visa and became a scholar-ship athlete at Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, a school in Midway. He was 16 at the time.

Tallahassee – Attorneys for the state acknowledged Tuesday that a 2021 Florida law that placed restrictions on social-media platforms posed “First Amendment problems” but urged a federal judge to reject a legal challenge that wound its way to the U.S. Supreme Court before being sent back to district court.
