Navarre High School’s Sara McPherson was recently named the 2025 Santa Rosa County District Schools’ Rookie of the Year. Despite only being in the classroom for the past two years, McPherson has been at Navarre High in various capacities since 2021.

It’s the year 2000. I’m at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. Philip Rivers is the quarterback of the Wolfpack and there is no shortage of hype around him.

In the press box high above the stadium in a nationally televised game on ESPN, I’m putting together a running game story and just praying I get a phone line connected to my laptop in time to send before deadline that night.

Manny Diaz Jr. named interim University of West Florida president

Today, May 27, the University of West Florida Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Manny Diaz Jr. as interim president, pending the Florida Board of Governors’ approval. Diaz, who currently serves as commissioner of the Florida Department of Education, will begin his new role on July 14, 2025, following the resignation of Dr. Martha Saunders.

Navarre man helped pull woman from submerged car at Navarre Beach Causeway

A harrowing ordeal took place Wednesday evening, May 21, at Navarre Beach.

A woman driving northbound in a sedan veered off the Navarre Beach Causeway at a high rate of speed, crashing into Santa Rosa Sound. According to Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was an attempted suicide.
