Fee Simple Title legislation passes House committee

The House Natural Resources Committee has moved forward legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla. to allow Santa Rosa Island leaseholders to attain fee simple title to their property.  H.R. 1452 would authorize Escambia County to convey certain property on Santa Rosa Island.  It would also streamline the management of the island by conveying land that currently lies in the jurisdictional boundaries of Santa Rosa County, but is owned by Escambia County, to Santa Rosa County.

A cancer diagnosis at any stage is devastating news.  The questions, concerns and even panic that can set in can throw any life off of a sure path.  In the case of breast cancer, it can affect the sheer essence of who a woman thinks she is.  We have been taught in life that our female body parts are what make us who we are.  And that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Breast cancer survivors will tell you that.

2015 Taste of Gulf Breeze winners

The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 3rd Annual Taste of Gulf Breeze last Friday evening in conjunction with the Gulf Breeze Community Expo.  Over 600 people attended this year’s event and sampled delicious appetizers, beverages, and desserts from 18 area restaurants and food and beverage providers while they visited with area businesses.  Awards were given for Best Appetizer, Best Beverage and Best Dessert in Restaurant and Specialty Divisions, along with the overall Best of Taste award.

New work release program gains support

Up to 120 people convicted of minor crimes in Santa Rosa County would be housed in a new work release center to be located in a former juvenile detention center in Milton, Sheriff Wendell Hall proposed Monday.

Teen smoking rates at all-time low

Youth cigarette smoking rates in Florida are at an all-time low according to new data released on Tuesday by the Florida Department of Health. Conventional cigarette use among Florida high school students dropped from 8.6 percent in 2013* to 6.9 percent in 2015 – a 19.7 percent change.
