Veterans intervene to fill the gap

Investigator James O’Keefe’s video on veteran suicides for Project Veritas asks why an increasing number of military graveyards are being filled with people who died at their own hands rather than in combat. He asserts that VA is unable to treat the underlying causes of veterans’ emotional problems, depending on drug therapies which can mask the problems or have serious side effects that make matters worse.

Waiting for a real family

There are more than 500 children in temporary foster homes in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.  They have been abused, neglected or abandoned.  While some may eventually return to their birth families, the rest will need adoptive families. 

A time of renewal

For Christians around the world, Easter represents a time of renewal, and a time of remembrance of the death of Jesus and his resurrection.  However you choose to celebrate Easter, whether it is in Church or in your backyard hunting for Easter eggs or both, we at Navarre Press wish you a day of renewal.  Consider it perhaps a transfiguration of sorts; a shedding of whatever is old and stale and an embrace of new things, habits and ideas.  We can all use that in our life, no matter your belief.

Kayak launch coming to Navarre Park West

In a little known park at the end of Blue Tip Drive in Navarre, Santa Rosa County will be installing a new kayak launch.  The request for the addition came from James Broxson, owner of Broxson Outdoors located at the corner of Blue Tip Drive and Navarre Parkway and District 4 County Commissioner Rob Williamson. 

Base Realignment unlikely until 2019

In a report to the Board of County Commissioners, Pete Gandy, military consultant for Santa Rosa County, spoke of his annual trek to Washington DC last week.  Gandy traveled to the nation’s capital as part of the Northwest Florida Defense Coalition to meet with the congressional delegation and pentagon senior leaders and representatives.

Possible Navarre Beach Hotel

The potential developer looking at the property located at 8459 Gulf Blvd., is currently conducting his due diligence which includes the pre-application meeting with Santa Rosa County, a marketing analysis and submitting proposals to potential hotel flags (brands). The total number of units will depend on the brand because different brands have different square foot requirements.

New faces join race for Miller’s seat

The congressional race for U.S. House District 1 is heating up with numerous candidates who have recently filed an intent to run.  A total of 2,298 signatures of registered voters are required to enable a candidate to actually qualify in lieu of paying a hefty $10,440 qualifying fee. The signatures must be received by the Florida Division of Elections Office in Tallahassee by May 23, 2016.  The qualifying period is June 20, 2016 at noon through June 24, 2016 at noon. So far, here are those individuals who have entered the race:
