Constitution Revision Commission: Proposals to watch

Proposals currently under consideration by the Constitution Revision Commission have been whittled down from hundreds to 37. If approved by the CRC, the proposed changes will go before Florida voters in November. Here are some of the key proposals:

Immigration

Should immigration serve the host country and its citizens or should it serve foreign countries and their citizens? The United States is no longer a frontier with a need for people to fill the void. Should immigrants fill empty jobs or take jobs from citizens? Our government has allowed immigration to explode, changing the character of our country for the purpose of political power or greed.

Bank health in Navarre by the numbers

Bank failures ran rampant during the Great Recession, but thanks to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and, for credit unions, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) many of the losses were covered.

Navarre Beach Fire rates still up in the air

Navarre Beach Volunteer Fire Department has gotten the go-ahead on its request to increase the residential municipal service benefit unit (MSBU) on the beach by $50, but a proposed commercial increase has hit a wall.

Seller beware fast-cash home offers

From hand-written signs nailed to telephone poles in the City of Gulf Breeze to a front-page countywide newspaper advertisement, the pitches by would-be buyers of houses for cash and “as is” are hard to miss lately.
