Florida’s holidays, observances commemorate religion, history

November through January is generally known as the holiday season in the United States, as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day are celebrated and observed as days employees have off. Other holidays are also celebrated during that time of year, including Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

While the holiday season may be a short period of the year, there are many other holidays observed throughout the calendar year. In Florida, there are state-specific holidays, which are observed in state offices.

Tilton ready for first season with new college softball program

Caitlin Tilton said she gained a lot from her first two seasons of softball with Coastal Alabama North, both as an athlete and a person.


Tilton reflected on that experience ahead of her first year with the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. The Navarre Raider grad transferred there after last season.

Car crashes into Tiger Point home, no injuries reported

Midway Fire District had to rebuild part of a home Sunday, Jan. 26, after a vehicle crashed into it.

On that Sunday, at approximately 5:30 PM, Midway Fire District Engine 35, Truck 36, and Battalion Chief 35 responded to the 1000 block of Lionsgate Lane following a 911 report of a vehicle crash involving a home.
