Taskforce off to good start

We attended the March 21 meeting of the Land Development Taskforce and were pleasantly surprised by what we heard and saw.

Back in February, we put the county commissioners on blast for selecting a “builder heavy” taskforce. They listened and backed off on some of the choices they made in favor of a more balanced approach. But we were still left with three builders in the end.

Santa Rosa Tourism Council approves budget, looks at marketing results

Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council convened March 20 to discuss and approve a preliminary budget for FY 2025-26, which runs from Oct. 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2026.

The total overall budget for the TDC, which funds Tourism Development Office (TDO) operations, brand marketing for Santa Rosa County and grants for a variety of events throughout the county, is $3,633,563.

First set of regional softball rankings have been released

Pace, Navarre and Jay are all top five teams in the state in the first set of FHSAA regional rankings.


The reigning state champion Patriots are atop Region 1-6A while the Raiders are second in the region. The two teams are second and fourth-respectively, in the state.

Runner-up finish for Raiders at district weightlifting meet

Fueled by strong performances across the board, including championship efforts by three lifters, the Navarre Raiders earned a runner-up finish as a team in Olympic and traditional at the FHSAA District 1-3A boys weightlifting meet Monday at Pace.


Josh Wilson, Roan Strom and Yalal Mustafa all secured individual championships in their respective weight classes while a host of other Raiders placed in the top three.

Holley Navarre Water System moves to enhance golf game at Hidden Creek with GPS devices

Specialized GPS equipment may soon be available for golfers at The Club at Hidden Creek.

At their March meeting, Holley Navarre Water System board of directors approved a contract for GPS tracking units with displays for the course’s new Yamaha cart fleet. The contract is a 60-month lease with Pace Technology 10EX for $3,765.90 a month. Pending a review from HNWS’ legal team, TCHC will receive 80 units.

Coastline Calvary Chapel in Gulf Breeze is inundated with surfing culture. You could say it was founded on it.

The church’s Surf Fest event, March 16, brought together people to hear testimonies from professional surfers about their journey of faith including Coastline’s founding pastor, John Spencer. Other well-known surfers spoke about their time riding waves and shared how they found their faith.
