Stating what we are thankful for is the popular thing to do at Thanksgiving.

So why not do it in a column. It just makes sense.

I can tell you one thing. I’m thankful I’m not a fan of the New York Jets.

That team is a dumpster fire.

I feel bad for Navarre’s own Jordan Leggett that he’s on the team because you want to see him be a part of a winning organization. Here’s hoping better days are ahead for him.

I’m thankful I cover the most consistent high school program in the Panhandle. Navarre has set a standard for others to follow. The Raiders are 41-6 since 2015 and have won 70 games under head coach Jay Walls. Here’s hoping they go all the way and win the program’s first state title.

Speaking of Raider football, and really, Raider athletics in general, I’m thankful for the athletes who take time to talk after a game, win or lose. Politicians could learn a thing or two about speaking to the media from the student-athletes we have here in Navarre.

That reminds me, I’m thankful I don’t cover politics. That would just drive me crazy.

I’m thankful I’m not Bobby Petrino. He was ousted as the head coach at Louisville after his team went 2-8 in its first 10 games.

But I guess it’s not all bad. He’s getting paid more than $14 million in his buyout.

While we are on the topic of buying out contracts, it appears a crazy SEC fan started up a GoFundMe page to buy out Gus Malzahn’s contract at Auburn.

Auburn is going to finish the regular season with a winning record and it’s going to go to a bowl game. But that isn’t good enough at Auburn. Fans want conference and national championships.

But every year can’t be a great year. Some are just destined to be average. Auburn will be relevant in the playoff picture again at some point.

And look at it this way, Auburn fans. At least your men’s basketball team is looking pretty good. Enjoy that for now and hope the football team returns to prominence in 2019.

I’m thankful I’m not LeBron James.

Oh sure, having his money and fame wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but boy, it can’t be a thrill playing for the Lakers, who are a long way from contender status in the NBA.

James might never see an NBA Finals again. Heck, he might be lucky if he ever sees the playoffs again.

Then again, no one should feel sorry for him. He’s not in Los Angeles with the intent of winning championships. His reasons are business-oriented.

Go enjoy your Thanksgiving. Eat a lot of food, relax a little bit and then go out and navigate your way through the chaos that is Black Friday shopping.

And just be thankful the NFL lineup for Thanksgiving Day doesn’t feature the Jets against the Oakland Raiders, the Buffalo Bills against the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. Talk about the ultimate example of something to be thankful for.
