Junior Lifeguard program jumping into third year

While the Navarre Beach Lifeguards keep tourists and locals safe at the beach this summer, a new generation is being trained to follow in their footsteps. The Navarre Beach Junior Lifeguard program, which is entering its third year, helps strengthen children and teens’ swimming and water related skills, while also teaching them about waterways, marine life and other things about the Gulf of Mexico.

Mariachi’s Mexican Grill is expanding – and moving. There are plans to develop an 8,000 square foot Mariachi’s Mexican Grill at the corner of Tiger Trace Blvd. and Gulf Breeze Parkway. Once built, Mariachi’s Mexican Grill will move into the new location, with plans to lease the current space (2731 Gulf Breeze Parkway).

Chronic Wasting Disease claims first Florida deer

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed that a road-killed 4.5-year-old female white-tailed deer in Holmes County sampled during routine surveillance activities has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). It is the first known case of CWD in Florida, a contagious disease of the brain and central nervous system that is fatal to deer. The first case of CWD in North America was described in mule deer in Colorado in 1967.

BREAKING: Pace restaurant sends seven to the hospital, police investigating

The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating an incident at Nikko Japanese Steakhouse in Pace after seven people became ill after eating at the restaurant. Investigators are actively working along with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco is also conducting an independent investigation of this incident. All victims are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals. The investigation is ongoing.

Commonly referred to as “the first lady of Navarre,” Ira Mae played a prominent role in the progress and development of Navarre’s early years, its business community and the quality of life of the residents.
