Navarre post office expanding

The Navarre post office, located at 1910 Navarre School Road, is going through renovations to the eastern wall of the building. There is also work being done to the area directly adjacent to the eastern wall of the post office.

DeSantis visits Milton to announce Broadband Opportunity awards

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Milton Thursday to present a $2.36 million Broadband Opportunity Grant to Santa Rosa County leaders. The popular Republican governor visited the historic Imogene Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 2, to announce the first Broadband Opportunity Grant Program awards to expand broadband internet for Florida’s underserved communities. The Santa Rosa grant will help bring high-speed internet to 791 homes and businesses in the county. Statewide, the program is committing more than $144 million for 58 projects in 41 counties, impacting almost 160,000 unserved residential, educational, business and community locations.

All-County Honor Band has two performances

Santa Rosa District Schools celebrated middle and high school students who were selected to the All-County Honor Band during two performances Saturday, Jan. 28, at Pace Assembly of God’s auditorium. The middle school band was conducted by Ann Leffard, who has taught music education at schools in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties. The high school band was conducted by John Folsom, who recently retired after 45 years of full time band directing in Alabama and Georgia.

School Resource Officer arrested on lewd and lascivious charge

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deputy David Daniels Tuesday, Jan. 24, on a felony lewd and lascivious charge. On Monday, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was informed that a report of misconduct had been made against Daniels to the Department of Children and Families. Immediately after receiving the report, the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes detectives began to investigate the reported incident.

Santa Rosa graduation rates exceed pre-pandemic levels

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted education throughout the United States. Students, teachers, parents, and administrators had to adjust to lockdowns, online learning and other disruptions to students, even after reopening schools. Despite these challenges, the Florida Department of Education announced Jan. 13 that high school graduation rates for the 2021-2022 school year not only met pre-pandemic levels, they exceeded them across the state. Santa Rosa County was no exception.
