After a decade in the custody of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Brandon Aydelott, 28, is heading to a “step down” facility per a judge’s order. He has been in the State Hospital following his killing of Sharon Aydelott, his mother, on Christmas Eve 2013. On Thursday, Aug. 15, Aydelott appeared in court for the first time since March 26. The court proceeding was part of the reopening of Aydelott’s case, a process which began in 2022. The case was reopened to see about moving Aydelott from the State Hospital to a restrictive mental health treatment facility known as the Apalachee Center, located in Quincy.
