Code enforcement declares murder site nuisance

Santa Rosa County Code Enforcement has publicly declared the structure at 2657 Salamanca St. in Navarre a nuisance and unsafe, unsanitary or unfit for human habitation. The notice was delivered and posted on the property April 18, 2023. The property is the location of the murder of 43-year-old Toby Hill on April 7, 2023. On that Friday, deputies responded to a reported shooting and found Hill with a gunshot wound. EMS responders later pronounced him dead.

The American Red Cross of North Florida is hosting a Shelter Fundamentals and Simulation event at noon Saturday, May 13. The event will be held at the Clyde L. Gracey Community Center, 5629 Byrom St. in Milton. Potential evacuation shelter volunteers, observers, and partners are welcome to attend by registering online.

Rhino encounter launches just in time for ‘Cinco De Rhino’

Meet Soman, a rare male greater one-horned rhino, also known as an Indian rhino, who lives at the Gulf Breeze Zoo.

He just turned 18 years old and is one of only about 4,000 Indian rhinos in the world today. These rhinos are poached for their horn, which is made out of keratin.

If you’re not a Star Wars fan, it’s just May 4. “May the Fourth be with you,” a pun on the famous Star Wars line “May the Force be with you,” has led to May 4 being known as Star Wars Day, an unofficial holiday to celebrate all things Star Wars. Although its popularity has certainly grown in the past decade, the earliest celebrations of the commemorative day are almost as old as the franchise itself.

More dollar stores coming to Santa Rosa County

For those of you looking for another dollar store to shop at in Santa Rosa County, you’re in luck. There are currently two Dollar Generals in development in the north end of Santa Rosa County, one on Woodbine Road in Pace and another in East Milton at the corner of Hickory Hammock Road and Ward Basin Road. They have both been approved by the county.
