Santa Rosa County welcomes public input and review of the third proposed amendments to the Multi-Year Implementation Plan (MYIP) that was initially accepted by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Gulf Coast Restoration in May 2017 and was first amended in September 2019. A second amendment was approved in 2021. A 45-day public review and comment period will be held before the third amended plan is submitted to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

The owner of several Mexican restaurants in Northwest Florida and Alabama has been ar-rested on a slew of charges related to the mishandling of COVID-19 era federal loans. Cesar Campos-Reyes, 52, is charged with four counts of bank fraud, four counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama, the charges stem from an alleged scheme involving federal program fraud.

Topgolf, a golfing and entertainment venue chain, has opened a new location on Panama City Beach. Located in Pier Park City Center, the two-level venue is the 10th Topgolf location in Florida.

Ground broke on the project in 2024, and the location officially opened June 27, 2025. The St. Joe Company owns and manages the site on which Topgolf was built.

Protect and serve. That’s the mantra of many law enforcement agencies, and it was exemplified July 11 in Navarre, when a dog was rescued from a storm drain by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. Assistance was provided by Midway Fire District.

While many people think of sharks as a threat in the water, The Florida Department of Health is warning people to be mindful in and around the water for a different reason. Vibrio vulnificus, a bacterium which normally lives in warm brackish seawater, is responsi-ble for the deaths of four people throughout the Sunshine State, according to FDOH. The number of deaths come from confirmed cases of the bacterium and have occurred in Bay, Broward, Hillsborough and St. Johns counties.

Mosquito activity can be year-round in Florida, but is especially prevalent during the spring and summer months as temperatures rise and rainfall increases.

To curb the prevalence of these pests, Santa Rosa County has a Mosquito Control department. The department monitors mosquito activity in the county, works to reduce sources from which mosquitoes spawn and sprays pesticides in various parts of the county to address the insect.
