Boardwalk planned for Navarre Beach, architectural firm to be hired
The Tourist Development Council (TDC), which is the county board responsible for directing the Tourist Development Office (TDO) and their plans, has released initial conceptual plans for a new visitor center and boardwalk along the Gulf side of Navarre Beach.
The boardwalk, which will be built in two phases, will feature eight retail shops and stretch from the Navarre Beach main parking lot (near Windjammers on the Pier) to the Dolphin Pavilion in the Navarre Beach Marine Park. The eight shops will be in four buildings.

Animal Shelter dog adoptions closed until Oct. 7
Santa Rosa County Animal Services dog adoption operations remain closed at the shelter facility until Mon., Oct. 7 due to a bacterial illness called Mycoplasma cynos. SRCAS shelter and medical staff are treating the affected dogs and hope to be clear for regular adoption operations next week. Cat adoptions remain open.

BISSELL Pet Foundation fall national “Empty the Shelters” event begins October 1
With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From October 1 – 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 390 shelters in 44 states. Baptist Hospital celebrates first anniversary at new campus
Baptist Hospital is celebrating its one-year anniversary at its new location at Brent Lane and I-110. The new Baptist Hospital emergency doors opened at 3 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2023, at which time the very first patient arrived. Beginning at 5 a.m. that morning, all patients at the E and Moreno street Legacy campus were safely transported to the new Brent Lane location by noon.

Ever since Kye and Selena Keenam became the full-time guardians of their grandson, Sawyer Johns, in 2019, they have had their hands full. Johns, 7, has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a condition that causes seizures and developmental delays. He also has cortical visual impairment (CVI), meaning he is partially blind but can see high-contrast images.
