A wooded area separates Gulf Breeze Proper from the rest of the Fairpoint Peninsula.

The seemingly nondescript wooded area is Naval Live Oaks Reservation Area, which operates as the headquarters of Gulf Islands National Seashore. While it’s an enjoyable site for hiking and birdwatching, it also holds a special place in American history.

On Earth Day, held each year on April 22, Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center held a sea turtle release event at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Walton County.

Among the five turtles released was Crater, a 12-lb. juvenile green sea turtle. Crater was rescued off Navarre Beach Fishing Pier earlier this month after getting hooked in the mouth by someone who was fishing.

Holley-Navarre Middle School hosted its annual art show April 30. The art displayed represented students across multiple grade levels.

Navarre Beach Marine Science Station hosted its annual Autism Odysea event Saturday, May 2. The event brings together various organizations for a day devoted to special needs families.

Navarre Park once again hosted Norm Crowder Kids Fest, an annual event which raises funds for Santa Rosa Kids House, an organization which supports and advocates for child abuse victims. The event was held Saturday, April 25.

Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola is known as the Cradle of Naval Aviation, as it has been training pilots since the 1910s.

While “air” is in the installation’s name, it was important to the U.S. Navy long before planes took to the sky.

Cub Scouts do much more than camp.

From knife safety and bicycling to engineering and personal fitness, Cub Scouts learn a variety of topics and skills. These activities are called “adventures” and are required to advance to the next rank.

New Life Deliverance Temple Church in Navarre recently held its annual Marriage and Singles Conference from April 20 through 22. It was the 19th time the conference has been held by the church.

This year’s conference was held at the Margaritaville Resort in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and the theme was ‘a love like this.’

Delaney Ward has always wanted to be a teacher.

“I was interested in the background or the behind the scenes of teaching when I was a student, even before I found my calling,” Ward said.

Valerie’s House Northwest Florida (VHNWFL) is celebrating five years of service to grieving children and families with a “Five Years of Hope” Open House Wednesday, April 29 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at 904 East Gadsden Street in Pensacola. VHNWFL first opened in 2021.
