It’s never too early to have a plan. This weekend, residents across Santa Rosa County are invited to a free Disaster Services Expo on Sunday, April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bayview Community Center, located at 2001 E. Lloyd St. in Pensacola.

American Legion Post 78 in Milton is hosting the inaugural Young Patriots weekend this Saturday and Sunday, a two-day program aimed at bringing civics, community service, and patriotism education to middle and high school students across Santa Rosa County.

Student Led Academic Teams (SLAT) have become a major focus of Santa Rosa County District Schools in recent years. This teaching technique gives students an opportunity to show and develop leadership skills, while allowing teachers to take a step back and focus on student needs for subjects.

Recently, a teacher at Oriole Beach Elementary School was given an honor only one other teacher in the U.S. can claim for her implementation of SLAT.

In late February, a group of dogs allegedly charged at Leila Flack in what her husband, Brandon Ryan, described as an “attack.” On April 6, one of the dogs reportedly bit Chris Hempel, who lives on El Dorado Court.

Tim Kinsella’s call sign in the U.S. Navy was “Lucky.” It fits.

Not just because he grew up in Ireland and speaks with a characteristic Irish accent, but also because of his journey from the son of immigrants to a leader in the military and the community. Kinsella is the former commanding officer at NAS Pensacola. He served 33 years in the U.S. Navy, where he spent time on submarines, attended the U.S. Naval Academy and later became a helicopter pilot.

Firefighters from across the Southeast descended upon Pensacola Beach this past weekend for the Pensacola Beach Firefighters Challenge. The event is held annually and features individual competitions, team relay events and an opportunity for kids to get in on the action.

Sunday, April 12, marked the third annual Woofstock Festival in Navarre. The event, held at Pik-Itz Antiques, is organized by Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and brings people, animals and businesses together.

Locals, visitors and artists descended on Gulf Breeze on March 28 and 29.

Held annually at Gulf Breeze Parks and Recreation, the Gulf Breeze Arts Festival brings dozens of artists from around the Southeast to showcase and sell their work. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the event.
