Happy Joe’s Pizza and Ice Cream is looking to open in September, according to the restaurant’s owner.

Jen Harding, and her husband, Jeff, have been working to develop the restaurant in Navarre for the past few years. The 5,400 square foot restaurant, which will be located on two acres along Highway 87 S north of the High School Blvd. intersection, broke ground on Jan. 5.

Two hemp companies operating in Florida have been dealt a blow thanks to enforcement actions taken by Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson. On July 11, the state Department of Agriculture announced that Just Brands, LLC and High Roller Private Label, LLC violated state statute against the selling and manufacturing of hemp products attractive to children and were subsequently banned from selling certain products for multiple years.

The Grillehouse Steak & Seafood restaurant in Navarre will soon also be home to a nightclub. The restaurant’s owner, Clint Boutwell, announced the news on the Grillehouse’s Facebook page.

A staple of the East Milton food scene is back for summer. Gator’s Seafood, which has been serving customers since 1975 at its 4030 Farrington Road location, reopened its doors Friday, June 7. The restaurant operates seasonally, opening each June and closing in late summer. Bill Farrington, the owner, is carrying on his parents’ legacy. His father, Earl, started the restaurant in March of 1975 on family property. The restaurant is within earshot of where Earl was raised, Farrington said.

At a recent meeting of the Tourism Development Council (TDC), Tourism Development Office (TDO) Director Julie White noted a sharp increase in visitors from one of the largest cities in the south, thanks in large part to the county’s marketing efforts.

Pensacola State College is starting an Aviation Airframe Mechanics and Aviation Power Plant Mechanics (A&P Mechanics) program. To help future students enrolled in the program, Pensacola State College has accepted the donation of a plane from InDyne CEO and President Don Bishop. Pensacola State College Leadership, the Pensacola State College Foundation, and local and regional partners of the College were present at the donation ceremony, held at ST Engineering’s airframe maintenance facility at Pensacola International Airport. The ceremony was Tuesday, June 11.
