The Santa Rosa County Commission voted not to allow a coffee shop to conduct business at the entrance of Bahia Drive on Navarre Beach.

Espresso Lane owner Susan Bradshaw went before the board Thursday, July 23, to request that a vacant commercial property be rezoned to remove a single-use restriction on the property. Thomas Greene owns the parcel, which is listed as vacant commercial property.

The Betty J. Pullum YMCA has reopened its newly renovated wellness area, giving members a new space and new equipment to work out.

Completed over a three-month period, the renovations included a 2,122-square-foot expansion of the wellness area. During the renovations, some gym equipment was moved into the multipurpose room, where basketball and volleyball are played.

This month, dozens of pet owners have reported on social media that their dogs became ill after staying at ZOOMIES Pet Hotel in Navarre, prompting complaints to state regulators and questions about whether the illnesses are connected.

The most commonly reported illness is kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by bacteria and viruses, including Bordetella. Symptoms include coughing or wheezing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge, lethargy and decreased appetite.

Pensacola State College recently received a $5 million appropriation from the Florida Legislature for the construction of a new health science and nursing facility at the college’s South Santa Rosa County campus.

While PSC officials haven’t broken ground on the project, the new facility promises to expand what the Midway-area campus has to offer.

Navarre Montessori Academy, located at 9540 Navarre Parkway, has closed. Its final day of operation was June 26.

Academy owner Kiani Richardson made the announcement Wednesday, June 24, in a letter to parents of children attending the school.
