Wanted: Beach life superheroes, training provided
Navarre Beach Fire Rescue wants to build their team of beach superheroes, otherwise known as lifeguards. Tryouts will be held 8 a.m Saturday, July 10 at Navarre Beach Marine Park at access 40D. Applicants will be asked to swim 400 meters of open water and run 1 mile on the beach in less than 18 minutes, followed by a Surf Rescue Lifeguard Academy July 12-17.

Child caught in rip current, rescued by surfer
An 11-year-old boy who was pulled out by a rip current Wednesday evening is safe thanks to a young surfer.
“The boy was out near the end of the Navarre Pier by the time the surfer reached him,” said Navarre Beach Fire Rescue Chief Danny Fureigh. “He definitely was in pretty bad shape, swallowed a bunch of water, vomited it all back up in our truck.”

Sea turtles rescued at Navarre pier released
The Gulfarium’s C.A.R.E. Center successfully released six rehabilitated sea turtles on Thursday morning at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, according to a Gulfarium press release.

8-year-old crowned first Sea Turtle Queen
For the past 10 years, the Pensacola Beach Advocates have been hosting a Sea Turtle Baby Shower near the beginning of sea turtle nesting season to spread awareness through a fun family event.
This year, they raffled off a beautiful tiara and the chance to become the first Sea Turtle Queen.

Turner House renovation slightly behind schedule
Clean-up and renovation of the Turner House along Gulf Boulevard on Navarre Beach continues as planned, although slightly behind schedule. The first phase, which involved cleaning up the site that has been an eyesore for more than a decade, was completed in mid-May, about a month behind schedule. The first construction phase started last week, with a 90-day time window in which to work.
