DeSantis outlines vaccination plan

TALLAHASSEE --- Participating in a White House vaccine summit on Tuesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis outlined what appeared to be the state’s final COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan.
DeSantis said the state’s proposal calls for vaccinating seniors in nursing homes before the end of December, while also getting vaccines into the hands of “high-contact” front line health-care workers in five urban areas by the end of next week.
Competition lighting up Navarre homes, businesses

Christmas is on the horizon, and Navarre’s homes and businesses are decked out for the holiday.
The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce launched a new event this year celebrating the bright tradition. The Let It Glow Holiday Lights Competition runs now through Dec. 31, featuring businesses and residences done up in lights for the holiday season.

Argos picked fourth in GSC East Division

The University of West Florida men’s basketball team is picked to finish fourth in the East Division of the Gulf South Conference.
The Argonauts tallied 21 points in the poll, one behind third-place Montevallo. Valdosta State is the favorite in the division.
Alabama Huntsville is the favorite in the East.
UWF has two newcomers to watch in the conference on its roster in Tate Mulkey and Wendell Matthews.
Mulkey is a true freshman out of Charlotte who averaged 10.9 points per game for Fork Union Military Academy last season. Matthews hails from North Iowa Community College and is a two-time all-region selection.
UWF returns several key players as well, including Tarik McKelphin, Brett Carter Jr., Cameron Cox, Connor Flanagan Daniel Sofield.
Jeff Burkhamer is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Argos. His team is coming off a 14-14 season, which included an 11-9 record in the conference.
The UWF women’s team is tabbed sixth in the East Division, tallying 14 points. Lee is the favorite. Union is the favorite in the west.
Danielle Norquest is a preseason All-GSC pick. The senior forward averaged 14.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game last season. She recorded a school-record 21 double-doubles.
UWF went 8-20 overall and is under the guidance of ninth-year head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. The Argos were 4-16 in the conference.
