Since you asked: Is it illegal to alter an image of the American flag?

Here’s your answer: With the American flag being so near and dear to our hearts, some question it when they see altered versions of the flags commemorating law enforcement, the military or other organizations. For example, at least one Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office vehicle has a flag image for its front license plate with one of the red or white lines being replaced by a thin blue line.
