Sports Ability Games offer athletic opportunities to special needs students

Students from 16 schools in Santa Rosa County descended upon Pace High School’s football field for the inaugural north end edition of the Zack Butler Memorial Sports Ability Games Thursday, April 3.

Named for a physical education teacher and coach who lost his battle with cancer in 2022, the Sports Ability Games are designed to expand the field of opportunity for special needs students in athletics.

April 10 Zoning Board Preview: Six developments in Navarre to be considered

Santa Rosa County Zoning Board will meet Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. to discuss 15 rezoning requests from across the county. Six of the 15 requests come from County Commission District 4, which consists of Navarre and Holley.
The meeting will be held in the Board of County Commissioners meeting room at Santa Rosa County’s government offices (6495 Caroline St., Milton). The meeting is open to the public and public comments are encouraged.

New method allows phone call scammers to appear from the Animal Services shelter number

Multiple instances have been reported to the Santa Rosa County Animal Services administration wherein scam callers, showing up as the correct SRCAS shelter phone number, elicit payment information from residents to pay fees or fines.

Santa Rosa County Animal Services will never ask anyone to submit payments over the phone. Residents should hang up immediately and call the shelter line to report the fraudulent call if such a request is made.

If residents dial the shelter line (850-983-4680) from their own device, it will connect them to the correct SRCAS front desk number.

Water System board assigned roles at reorganization meeting, injunction against HNWS dismissed

An injunction to stop the election process of Holley Navarre Water System was thrown out by a Santa Rosa County judge Thursday, Feb. 27.

Filed Feb. 14, a few days before the HNWS annual meeting and election, the injunction aimed to prevent the water system from canceling out proxies which originated outside of the system. The water system allows proxy voting, which is when a member gives another member the right to vote on their behalf.
