Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Office hosts 2024 snowbird classes

With snowbirds flocking south, the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Office is opening their doors once again and hosting fun events for the seasonal residents during the next few months. Reservations are required for each class. You may only reserve a spot for yourself and 1 additional person. No full-time residents, please. In-person signups are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday, coinciding with engaging rock painting sessions and self-guided social and game hour. Reservations are required for each class except the Snowbird Expo.

Santa Rosa County Announces Official Name for Newest High School, Soundside High School

Following a collaborative effort by the district’s Facility Names Committee, comprised of two assistant superintendents, a director, a principal, a parent, and a community member, Santa Rosa County is thrilled to announce the official name for its newest high school: Soundside High School.

The naming process was initiated in December. The committee proposed three potential names: Bayshore High, Midway High, and Soundside High. To determine the final choice, public school-enrolled families from all Santa Rosa south end school sites were invited to participate in a vote.

Online education rising in Santa Rosa County, throughout Florida

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States in 2020, school districts across the country, who were still in their spring semesters, had to transition millions of students to online classes to finish out the school year. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 77% of public schools and 73 percent of private schools reported moving some or all classes to online distance-learning formats in early 2020.

Severe weather coming to Santa Rosa County tonight, tomorrow

Santa Rosa County Animal Services hosts ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ pet adoption event

Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is joining the BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, in bringing hope to shelter pets this holiday season with the “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” adoption event. SRCAS, 4451 Pine Forest Road in Milton, is participating Dec. 1 to 17 with reduced adoption fees of just $5 per cat or dog at SRCAS. View available animals online at www.santarosa.fl.gov/Animals. 

Santa Rosa County brought in $6.6 million this past fiscal year

The numbers for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 (Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023) are in and according to Santa Rosa County Tourist Development director Julie White, it was a big year.

Tax collections came in at a little over $6.6 million this year. A 4.4% increase year over year. During FY2021-22, the total tax collections was $6.3 million.
