Knocking on the doors of voters is usually a task undertaken by politicians, not the county’s Supervisor of Elections, but that is exactly what Santa Rosa’s Tappie Villane found herself doing the night before the June 11 general election for the House District 2 race to replace the late Rep. Clay Ford.

Santa Rosa Commissioners are gearing up for what is expected to be a contentious budgeting process. Although there was a glimmer of good news brought forth by the 1.04 percent increase estimated for property tax revenues — the first time there has not been a decline since the 2006-2007fiscal year — there is not enough projected revenue to meet budget requests from constitutional officers, such as the Sheriff and Tax Collector.
