Man arrested for battery on elderly

On Thursday, Nov. 19 Samuel Posey Brookshire of Milton was arrested for aggravated battery on his elderly cousin.  The incident occurred on Nov. 18 at a Coachman Road residence and a Santa Rosa deputy was dispatched to the disturbance. 

26 guns stolen in Pace home burglary

Two home security cameras identified a Milton man, Roy Pike, as the principal in a Pace home robbery involving the theft of 26 guns.  The burglary was reported on Nov. 4 by the homeowner.

Expired tag leads to drug charges

Christopher Alexander Lindsay of Navarre was stopped by Gulf Breeze Police for an expired tag on Sunday, Nov. 15.  The police report filed says that when the officer asked for Lindsay’s driver license, he said he didn’t have it.  Through a system check, the officer discovered that Lindsay’s license was revoked for 60 months in 2013 for being a habitual traffic offender. 

Vampire mosquitoes have quite the bite

For weeks and weeks my husband had been complaining about his stabbing, stinging, itching mosquito bites and resultant welts. He said what made this year different was the mosquitoes were more ferocious, seemed to be much larger and were dive bombing him.

Guardian ad Litem program needs voices for children

In the state of Florida, when a case of child neglect, abuse or abandonment is reported, the state Department of Children and Families steps in to shelter the child.  The shelter may come in the form of a foster home or another family member’s home while the child’s parents are working through their problems.  The court will then appoint a Guardian ad Litem to ensure the needs of the child are being met and serve as the voice of the child in court.

This past Monday our county commissioners voted to enter employment negotiations with Tony Gomillion to replace long-time county administrator Hunter Walker.  Tony has been a department director with the county for 29 years, both as public services director and as environmental control director. 

Milton weekend shootings under investigation

A release issued by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office says they responded to two unrelated shootings on Nov. 8 in Milton.  The first shooting occurred on Pooley Street where a black male received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper thigh area of his leg from two unknown males.  Deputies initially responded to a Limit Street address where the victim was located.  After EMS transported the victim, deputies spoke with witnesses and learned that the shooting took place on Pooley Street.  According to the incident report, when the deputy arrived at the Pooley Street scene, the front door to the house was wide open.  He performed a protective sweep of the residence without results.
