More safeguards, tighter controls coming

There are significant differences in the current pier management contract and the new agreement, which goes into effect Jan. 1.  Most notable are tighter financial controls and security measures, including pre-employment background screening in the aftermath of a Navarre Press investigation which prompted the firing of a registered sex offender who was hired to work at the pier. 

Midway Fire District celebrates 50 years

Incorporated in September 1963, the Midway Fire District has been serving Gulf Breeze residents for more than 50 years. But the district has come a long way from its humble beginnings when it first started out as a volunteer fire department that did not have a permanent station until the 1970s.

The dedication ceremony for the June Ates Arena was held last at the new 68,000-square-foot facility located at East Milton Park.  The $1.23 million facility was built using District 2 recreation funds.

Navarre will soon be home to 250 families

Longtime Navarre residents and business owners Betty and Greg Fountain are realizing a five-years-in-the-making dream come true. Their land off of Highway 98, west of Joybrook Road is being cleared for a 250 unit “Class A” luxury apartment complex on 16 acres that they have owned for eight years.

Busy month for TDC

The holidays are often a busy time. That is especially true this year for members of the Tourist Development Council (TDC).  After successfully advocating a bed tax increase, the council is set to review marketing services proposals and an important request from the Navarre Beach Turtle Center.
