County staff considers prohibiting shark fishing at designated swimming areas

A Santa Rosa County news release Friday announced a “possible recommendation” to add more designated swimming areas — and prohibiting shark fishing — between sunrise and sunset from March 1 and Nov. 15. Fishermen are expected to voice their objection to the idea at the commission’s public forum at 4:30 p.m. today at the Board of County Commissioners Meeting Room, 6495 Caroline St., in Milton.

East Bay Blvd. road work ahead of schedule, says county

If you have been driving on East Bay Blvd. at any point over the last few months, you might have taken a detour down Edgewood Drive or Bergren Road. This alternate route is being used because of ongoing construction work by Santa Rosa County and its contractors.

The County is replacing and upgrading cross drains at seven sites across East Bay Blvd. and along the pedestrian multi-use path adjacent to the roadway. A cross drain, sometimes referred to as a culvert, is a structure designed to drain water away from a roadway or development. These cross drains channel water runoff into East Bay.

Santa Rosa District Schools announces parent education series

Santa Rosa District Schools has announced the creation of a parental education series, which will take place this summer. The school district is encouraging families to join the series to learn more about mental health awareness, suicide prevention, being safe on the internet, and bullying awareness and prevention.

Veterans parking spaces now at county buildings

Northwest Florida is home to quite a few veterans.

In many places, veterans can enjoy designated parking spots but at Santa Rosa County-owned facilities, the only veterans parking spots were for Purple Heart recipients. Other veterans did not have designated parking.

At least not until now.
