Santa Rosa County Animal Services received a $25,000 grant from Florida Animal Friend, Inc. to help launch a spay and neuter program. The grant was competitive with 26 programs being funded from a total of 37 applications.

Students entering the 7th grade are required to have a current Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap) shot. The local department of health has scheduled outreach clinics to provide additional opportunities for parents to update their child’s middle school shots.

Midway Fire District reported higher than average call response times for the month of June. According to Fire Chief Jonathan Kanzigg, the increased response times were due partly to increased call volume but were also due to technical difficulties with dispatch.

Captain Bob Johnson from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office shared welcome news with attendees at the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting Friday. “We had a 4.9 percent decrease in Part I crimes in 2013,” he said. “Explaining what crimes are included in Part I can be a little tricky but they are typically considered serious crimes.”
