Veterans parking spaces added to county facilities

District 4 Commissioner Ray Eddington helped lead the effort to provide veterans parking spaces as county facilities. Put into motion by a couple of Santa Rosa County residents, Eddington contacted Assistant County Administrator Brad Baker to see what they could do to add the parking spaces. Baker and the Public Works staff helped Eddington order the parking signs and they installed the signs.

Karen Cody, a math teacher at Navarre High School, was named Santa Rosa County teacher of the year Wednesday, Jan. 25. Santa Rosa District Schools Superintendent Dr. Karen Barber, school board members and Santa Rosa Education Foundation members delivered the news to Cody’s classroom.

New Southend high school breaks ground

With shovels in hand and hardhats on their heads, members from Santa Rosa County school board ushered in the beginning of a new era for education on the south end of the county Wednesday, Dec. 6. They were at 5760 Gulf Breeze Parkway, the new home of a new high school, for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction on the three story, 74 classroom Southend high school.

Contractor arrested for taking $15K payment without doing work

A Pensacola contractor has been arrested for larceny of over $15,000 after not performing work on a Gulf Breeze woman’s home.

Jesse Wayne LaCoste, 30, owner of LaCoste Construction Group, was arrested on Nov. 30 after Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated him for two years for not completing work he was contracted to do in 2020 and 2021.

Community Book Exchange to be held at Navarre Library

Looking to get some new books while getting rid of some you’ve already read?

On Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a community book exchange will be held at Navarre Library’s meeting room. Santa Rosa County Libraries, which oversees Navarre Library, is not affiliated with the book exchange or its organizers.
