Severe storms likely overnight Wednesday

Weather conditions in Santa Rosa County may become severe Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service in Mobile is predicting severe weather conditions late Wednesday starting in the evening and going into the overnight hours. Isolated severe storms are possible as early as Wednesday morning. Santa Rosa County has been placed under an enhanced risk for severe weather.

With the severe weather, the main threats are tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour (mph) or greater. The National Weather Service said a strong (EF2+) tornado is possible.

Florida Dept. of Transportation announces December traffic advisory

The Florida Department of Transportation announced a traffic advisory for state roads in Santa Rosa County and other areas where crews will be working throughout the month of December. Those roads include:

U.S. 98 (Navarre Parkway) Turn Lane Construction at the new Publix – Drivers will encounter intermittent outside westbound lane closures near Rosewood Avenue on Mon., Dec. 12 and Tues., Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for paving operations.

SRCAS offers Home for the Pawlidays short-term Christmas foster program

Foster a pet this Christmas through Santa Rosa County Animal Services’ (SRCAS) Home for the Pawlidays short-term foster program!

SRCAS says foster parents can pick up a pet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, or Thursday, Dec. 22, foster them through the Christmas holiday and drop them off Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bed tax uses, Whiting Aviation Park among SRC legislative priorities

Easing restrictions on how Santa Rosa County is allowed to spend tourist-development tax revenue and funding to build a taxiway and apron to connect Whiting Aviation Park to an NAS Whiting Field runway are among the requests County Commission Chairman Colten Wright will share with state legislators at the county legislative delegation’s annual public hearing at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Gulf Breeze Community Center on Shoreline Drive.

State delegation to meet Tuesday in Gulf Breeze

The public is invited to address the Santa Rosa County state legislative delegation at a public hearing beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Gulf Breeze Community Center, 800 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

The hearing is the only one scheduled in Santa Rosa County before lawmakers report to Tallahassee on Dec. 12 for interim committee meetings.

More than 120 waterfront units coming to Navarre

Not all of Santa Rosa County’s growth is in Pace and East Milton. There’s still property to develop in Navarre.

The county’s Development Services Department is reviewing site plans for two waterfront housing projects, one on the mainland and one on Navarre Beach. The developments both are designed according to existing Land Development Code zoning standards, so the cases will not go before the Zoning Board or county commission. As long as staff approves their plans and they receive the appropriate permits, the developers can go ahead with their plans.
