Long-awaited developments – including three grocery stores and a new residential community – are taking big steps forward in Santa Rosa County.

These include what was formally known as The Boulevard at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and State Road 87, a new two-story Publix, surrounded by still unnamed retail stores, an Aldi in the heart of Navarre and the first Publix in Milton.

In a back-and-forth game that went right down to the wire, Navarre stepped up to make sure it secured a victory over West Florida Tech in its Kickoff Classic Friday night.

Needing one final stop to seal the deal, the Raiders didn’t disappoint, bringing the pressure and forcing the Jaguars to cough up the ball as time expired.

There is still work to be done for Navarre to shape itself into the team it ultimately wants to be in 2021, but Friday’s scrimmage at Bennett C. Russell Stadium provided a chance for the Raiders to continue down their trail of progression.

As another hot Florida summer comes to a close, Navarre High School seniors broke out their paint brushes the week before school started to personalize their own parking spaces.

It’s the first time seniors at the school have been allowed to customize their own spots. In past years, students were simply assigned a parking space number.

When Gaby Austin got a tip that U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz would be at Stripes Pub and Grill Wednesday, she knew she had to go.

Austin, a member of Escambia Federated Republican Women, said that meeting Gaetz was a dream of hers. She trusts him to help lead the country in the right direction and, as a legal immigrant, appreciates his position on illegal immigration.
