Pier bidders upset with commissioners

The Santa Rosa County Commission meeting set for Sept. 9 is expected to be a firestorm. Numerous Navarre citizens are planning to attend and speak out regarding the matrix ranking system used by commissioners on August 19 to select the top pier management proposal. Although the matrix method which was used has been utilized by the commission for years, some commissioners and residents are saying it is an unfair way to score proposals.

At least 20 brave Navarre residents will say goodbye to their hair on September 8 at a head-shaving event for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation at Tommy’s New Orleans Sno Balls. So far, 10 men and three women, including event organizer Pamela Petrone, have signed up to shave their hair to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Local business helps fire department light up the water

The primary Wave Runner jet ski used by the Navarre Beach Fire Department will now be easily identified as search and rescue when on the water, thanks to a local business. The NBFD recently had fishing lures and lines tossed its way while searching for a missing swimmer last month, and decided to upgrade their water rescue vehicles with flashing lights to make them more identifiable as fire department personnel.

A man who escaped from a prison in Arkansas was arrested last Thursday night in Santa Rosa County with his accomplice.
