Lisa Santos wants participants and attendees at the “Raise Your Voice 5k” on Navarre Beach March 1 to celebrate local residents who are currently battling colon cancer. Her son, Josh Lee Santos, died from colon cancer related complications in November 2012 at the age of 24.
When we think about Valentine’s Day, many think about “love.” For a church in Gulf Breeze, the whole week, Feb. 9 – 15, was about sharing the love of Jesus with organizations, businesses and people throughout the local area.
More than 200 seasonal visitors enjoyed an afternoon of conversation, food and fun at the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council’s Snow Bird Appreciation Social Feb. 13 at the Club at Hidden Creek. Eighteen area businesses showcased their products and services and provided give-a-ways for the attendees.
The Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association (NBLRA) expressed frustration with the Santa Rosa County Commissioners at their monthly meeting Feb. 15 suggesting the elected officials needed to be more vocal about their support for grant funding for beach renourishment. NBLRA President Linda Coley said, “Without funding from another source – like the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) funding – the only method of paying for beach renourishment is the creation of an MSBU. The funding of the MSBU would fall mainly to the residents of Navarre Beach.”
A 74-year-old woman hid her grandson in the trunk of her car in an attempt to conceal him from officers Wednesday, according to a Gulf Breeze Police Department arrest report.
When the Navarre Krewe of Jesters decided last year to change their parade date to avoid a conflict with the Mardi Gras parade on Pensacola Beach, they did so in an effort to attract more participation from area krewes. The change achieved the desired results last year and helped add two more new krewes from Pensacola for this year’s parade on Feb 22.
In front of a cafeteria full of students, with teammates, coaches and family members nearby, two Navarre High School seniors, Gatlin Casey and Christian Gill, signed National Letters of Intent last Wednesday declaring where they would play college football this fall. Casey signed with Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, while Gill signed with Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
Led by state champion, Kylie Shelley, the Lady Raiders placed second in the state weightlifting meet held in Kissimmee on Feb 8. They finished second to Spruce Creek for the fourth time. The final score was 28 to 17.
