Raider lifters take second at tri-meet

The Navarre High School weightlifters placed second in a three-team meet March 6 with Fort Walton Beach and Choctawhatchee at Fort Walton Beach. The Vikings demonstrated why they may be one of the favorites in the upcoming state meet by scoring 50 points. Navarre scored 34 points and Choctaw had 27. Five points were awarded for first place in a weight-division, three for second, two for third and one for fourth.

Mid-distance runners pace Raiders

Strong performances by Navarre High School’s middle-distance runners helped the Raiders finish third in the 14-team field Friday, March 2, at the 32nd Annual Frank Lay Patriot Invitational track and field meet at Pace.

Baseball Raiders honor Rollant

Navarre High School’s baseball program honored long-time supporter Dan Rollant, the late restaurateur who brought Vinnie R’s Italian Restaurant to Navarre, on Friday before losing 7-2 to visiting rival Pace. The Raiders started the week with home wins against Pensacola and Pine Forest.

Although Oliver Semmes graduated from Pensacola High School and Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a degree in industrial management and a Navy ROTC commission as an ensign, then retired from the Navy a captain, there’s no bronze statue of him like the one in Mobile of his great-great grandfather, naval hero, Admiral Raphael Semmes.
