Santa Rosa County’s first synagogue opens its doors

Here in Navarre, Fla., a new synagogue, the Ahm Yisrael Messianic Synagogue (AYMS), has opened its new building’s doors to the community. The first-ever synagogue in all of Santa Rosa County, it is led by the Rabbi Wayne Leland. According to the synagogue website, the group began as a home-based Bible study Leland taught in 2001. From the original handful of members, the congregation grew and settled into a rented church facility which they were able to secure in 2010. Only five years later, the collection of members had outgrown that facility as well. Following the growth, they were able to procure the building now located at 9255 Military Trail in Navarre.
Commissioners: Display fiscal responsibility

I would like to applaud the residents of Santa Rosa County who attended the recent meeting with the Santa Rosa County Commissioners to express their displeasure at the proposed 10-year penny increase in sales tax, reportedly to cover the new courthouse, roads, sidewalks and storm drainage. I couldn’t agree more with those residents. It just boggles the mind how obtuse these commissioners think ‘we the people’ are. Another tactic of smoke and mirrors from our illustrious commissioners (see land purchase of Industrial Park @ I-10). Another insult to the intelligence of the taxpayers of Santa Rosa County.
Fun Fest poster unveiled

Eva McDonough answered the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s call to artists to produce a design for the official poster of the 32nd Annual Fun Fest at Navarre Beach. McDonough, a graphic designer and graduate of Pensacola State College spent about two months perfecting her entry for the contest.

The regular season came to a close this week for Navarre’s softball team and while the season has not been a smooth one all the way through, Navarre head coach Kelly Hayes can’t fault her team for the effort it has put forth.
