Nick Ducati prepared for his final lift in a dual meet against Choctaw Wednesday afternoon. His teammates stood around him, cheering loudly and shouting words of encouragement.

Ducati grabbed the bar and raised it up, his face turning a little red as he fought to keep the weights above his head and punctuate his day with a 270-pound lift.

The subdued browns, greens and grays of the forest are beginning to return to the brilliant pallet familiar to residents who venture beyond their front door. In the last days of February, the slow progression of woodland colors is shifting as spring approaches.

Many plants, trees and fungi are not reflecting the awareness of the coming warm days.

A recipe for success

At a Feb. 21 Sunday mass, the St. Sylvester’s chapter of the Columbiettes presented a $2,500 donation to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Navarre (PRCN).

The funds were raised from the sale of a church cookbook. Chapter president, Angela Edwards and Financial Secretary, Ann Teston, presented the check to PRCN Executive Director Betsy Bower and Ellen Stanley, director of client services.
