Four years into her stint as a substitute teacher, Linda Henderson has been named the Santa Rosa County District Schools’ Substitute of the Year.

A regular substitute teacher at East Milton Elementary School, Henderson said she was more than surprised to find out she was substitute of the year for EMES, much less the whole district.

Daysha Taylor had no idea how much of a role she would play on the soccer field in her first year at Holmes Community College in Mississippi.

Turns out, the former Navarre Raider was instrumental in helping the Bulldogs reach the National Junior College Athletic Association Final Four.

Jimmy B’s Pizza closing, owner to open food truck

With the close of 2024 came the close of Jimmy B’s Pizza in Tiger Point. The restaurant, located in a strip mall near the Tiger Point Walmart, had been serving pizza pies and other Italian food for the better part of 18 years.

Chelsey Freiermuth, who took over for the restaurant’s namesake upon his retirement in 2023, said the decision to close was a difficult, yet necessary one.

Kyra McKelvey enjoys stellar sophomore season at Southeastern

In a match against Stephen F. Austin in November, Kyra McKelvey turned in a big-time performance, the kind of performance fans were used to seeing during her days at Navarre.

McKelvey racked up a career-high 21 kills for Southeastern, which won the match in five sets and extended one of the nation’s longest win streaks to 20.
