Raider baseball team making most of summer workout opportunities

Fielding work is the focus of a summer workout for the Navarre Raider baseball team on a sunny and hot Tuesday morning in early July.

Not all of the players are here on this day – several are playing travel ball – but overall, it’s been a productive summer since workouts began in mid-June.

Made from scratch

At the Eatery, a Midway-area food truck venue, you’ll find food trucks with burgers, Asian cuisine, tacos and ice cream. You’ll also find charcuterie.

Cutie Patootie Charcuterie and Sweets, which opened in November 2024, is trying to do something new, and relatively rare, in the food truck space: create made-from-scratch, premium-quality dishes from ingredients sourced from around the world.

County Commissioners approve Soundside conservation project funding

The Soundside Conservation Project, a movement for Santa Rosa County to purchase a 27-acre plot of land in Gulf Breeze off Soundside Drive and designate it for conservation, has been approved by a unanimous vote of Santa Rosa County Commissioners July 10. The land encompasses 4 acres of uplands and 23 acres of “high quality wetlands” according to an appraisal of the property. The wetlands feed into a creek that empties into the Santa Rosa Sound.

Marquez White ready to make impact on both sides of field

Marquez White is well established on the defensive side of the ball, and come this season, he’ll be looking to make his mark on offense as well.

White is entering his senior year set to play wide receiver while also staying on defense as a safety instead of a corner.

No cooling off Raiders during summer volleyball workouts

It’s hot inside the Panhandle Elite Volleyball Club during a Navarre Raider volleyball summer workout session, the fans that are blowing providing little relief as players compete in a six-on-six match.

With work being done on the gym floor at the high school, the Raiders have gotten their  workouts rolling here in Gulf Breeze and they have come in ready to work.

With the growth of Santa Rosa County’s human population comes an influx of pets, such as cats and dogs.

To keep pets, and their owners, in check, the county has leash laws enforced by Santa Rosa County Animal Services. The leash laws pertain to various areas of the county, namely in population centers such as Navarre, Midway, Gulf Breeze, Milton, Pace and Jay.

Therapy dog ‘Langley’ helps first responders

First responders have a difficult job. They are often the difference between life and death, a stressful profession in which it’s necessary to keep yourself mentally healthy. For Santa Rosa County’s Lifeguard Ambulance Service, this is where therapy dog Langley comes in.

Horseshoe crabs play role in biomed research, coastal ecology

June 20 marked International Horseshoe Crab Day. While that day has passed, horseshoe crabs remain one of the most important creatures along the Florida Gulf Coast.

Described as ‘living fossils,’ horseshoe crabs were around before the dinosaurs and haven’t evolved much in the last 445 million years. They are unmistakably recognizable with their horseshoe-shaped prosoma (the front shell), opisthosoma (back shell) and a spike-like tail called a telson.
