Navy Federal remains a leader in employment, impacting the community

Even amid a pandemic, Navy Federal Credit Union has never strayed from the course of its mission.
It took some adapting along the way, with employees going remote for more than two years, but with 2023 underway, everything is humming along for the region’s largest private employer.
Kim Aderholdt is the vice president of the Greater Pensacola Operations, a sprawling campus off Nine Mile Road that is a hop, skip and jump away from Interstate 10. She noted nothing came easy during a time of uncertainty for the country, but she is impressed with the way the company has continued to move forward.

Raiders have strong showing in preseason softball games

Navarre head softball coach Will Koch was pleased his team picked up a win over Northview in its preseason opener Monday in Gulf Breeze, and yet he was still looking for more out of his team in the wake of a 7-6 win against the Chiefs.

“The first game we weren’t as sharp and didn’t have as much energy. We came out flat,” Koch said. “It was a little concerning. We had a meeting afterwards.”

Navarre’s boys weightlifting team made it a sweep of the Northwest Florida Invitational at Baker Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders won the traditional competition with 66 points, nearly double the total Pace (39) had, and won the Olympic competition with 73 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Milton (41).

Beach nourishment held up by Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, FEMA surveys

Once every 10 years or so, Navarre Beach goes through beach nourishment, a process in which sand, lost through erosion, is replaced through other sources.

This can help widen the beach, making it more resistant to the effects of erosion and storms.

The last time Navarre Beach went through this process was 2016 and it was due to happen again in 2026. That was until Hurricane Sally’s impact bumped up the timetable. Now, nearly three years after Sally hit the Gulf Coast, the beach has still not been restored.

Love (jail)birds: Pace man, woman arrested after hiring someone to kill husband

The old ball and chain has been given a new meaning. On Tuesday, Feb. 14, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson spoke at a news conference about a murder for hire case involving a man and a woman from Pace.
“I think this is my first Valentine’s Day press conference,” Johnson said. “That’s kind of appropriate because we’re going to tell you about a love story.”

Driving me crazy

It’s hard to believe I’ve been back overseeing the Crestview News Bulletin and Santa Rosa’s Press Gazette for more than two months now.

There have been some minor hiccups along the way, more on that later, but overall the job has gone better than I could have hoped.

Nurse Navigator program launched in Santa Rosa County

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 14, Santa Rosa County residents calling 911 may make a new connection with the Nurse Navigation program, an innovative healthcare solution provided through Lifeguard Ambulance Service in Santa Rosa County in conjunction with Santa Rosa County Public Safety.

Brian Out Loud

MaxPreps has a much bigger role now in high school athletics than it once did.

That status update is the result of the FHSAA partnering up with it when it comes to calculating rankings that determines who goes and who stays home when it comes to the postseason in all sports.
