Peewee Jarrett unleashed a long throw down the field, the ball destined to find the hands of John Jiles, who leaped in the end zone in an effort to make the grab.

The pass play was broken up despite Jiles just missing on getting his hands on the ball, but ultimately it didn’t matter.

The outcome had been decided and the players started running off the field, their arms raised, their smiles wide, while the remaining moments of time rolled off the clock.

It was a wet day for those who attended this year’s Smokin’ in the Square BBQ cookoff at St. Sylvester’s. While the rain fell, it didn’t deter people from coming out to eat some grub.

Baptist Health Care making transition to new campus

Baptist Hospital will be moving patients from its E Street location to its new campus at the corner of Brent Lane and I-110 in Pensacola Saturday, Sept. 23.

This includes the new Baptist Hospital Emergency Room on Brent Lane opens Sept. 23, at 3 a.m. The emergency room on E Street will close at the same time. Other Baptist Health Care ERs are open 24/7, including the ERs at Gulf Breeze and Jay hospitals and the free-standing emergency room at Baptist Medical Park-Navarre.

Following court ruling, hundreds of lawsuits mount for Skanska

Following an August federal appeals court decision to uphold a 2021 ruling that Skanska, a construction company, was negligent and can’t limit their liability for damages caused by the company’s barges during Hurricane Sally in 2020. The decision was a major victory for individuals and municipalities looking to sue Skanska for things such as property damage and economic losses.

BoCC removes alternative subdivision provision from LDC; keeps clear-cutting

Alternative subdivisions and clear-cutting are two of the most unpopular practices allowed under Santa Rosa County’s existing Land Development Code; last week, the Board of County Commissioners decided to remove alternative subdivisions from the updated LDC but unanimously agreed to keep existing clear-cutting practices.

Navarre Gardens residents visit beach

Residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities spend most of their time on the property of their respective facility. Navarre Gardens, which has locations on Highway 87 and Highway 98, is an assisted living facility in Navarre.

While many of the residents at Navarre Gardens spend much of their time on property, occasionally they can visit other places. On Thursday, Sept. 14, several residents from Navarre Gardens on Highway 87 visited Navarre Beach.
