Gaetz says Fla. teacher evaluation not working

Florida’s new teacher evaluation system isn’t working, and lawmakers should stop making major changes in the state’s schools until that plan and other key initiatives are fixed and implemented, Florida Senate President Don Gaetz said.

One County in 67 May Enact Risky Prayer Law

Last year the Florida Legislature passed a bill that allowed returning outright prayer to public schools. Not a moment of silence, not gathering around the flagpole on the National Day of Prayer, but the bona fide right of students to lead other students in prayer at any student assembly, even mandatory ones. School officials are prohibited from interfering, or even judging whether the prayer in question is appropriate.

In case you forgot, today is Valentine’s Day. I’m sure there are cards and candy still available at local retail outlets. Valentine’s is at the top of my list of holidays. I know guys hate it because there is a lot of pressure – supposedly.

Beach noise ordinance dies

Santa Rosa County commissioners agreed Monday that Navarre Beach does not need a noise ordinance.

Commission Chairman Bob Cole began the discussion by stating that he is not for any noise ordinance on Navarre Beach because it would be “more government on top of government.”

Snowbird’s home away from home

Each year hundreds of people make their winter home in Florida and are, therefore, dubbed “Snowbirds.” They come in the winter months for many reasons, maybe to escape the cold and snow back home for warmer temperatures, to visit Florida when the beaches aren’t crowded with tourists or to spend some time gazing out over the water as the sun sets on Navarre Beach. Whatever the reason, Navarre welcomes these snowbirds to their temporary home-away-from-home.
